The improved model was launched in October 2021, two years after the Nintendo Switch Lite. While everyone was expecting a Nintendo Switch Pro model that could handle 4K games through DLSS and could even bring ray-tracing, we got the Switch (OLED). The rumors about a new Nintendo Switch with revamped hardware reached their peak in 2021. When the Nintendo Switch 2 will be released? But with the Nintendo Switch 2 bearing a similar architecture, we expect it to offer backward compatibility. For obvious reasons, the Switch can’t run Wii U games. The Wii U could also handle Wii games without issue. When the Nintendo Wii came out, the first models offered native backward compatibility with the Game Cube. We expect the Nintendo Switch 2 to offer full compatibility with the current games. As a result, a Nintendo Switch 2 with revamped hardware could improve things. With the new generation going on, the disparity between new games and the Switch hardware is getting bigger. However, most of the studios decided to stick with the cloud-based solution, which is not the best approach and kills the console’s main appeal – portability. The effort of some developers gave birth to impressive ports like CD Projekt’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Some studios did everything possible to bring their games to the portable console. The console also got some third-party AAA titles, but this always depended on a certain goodwill from the developers. In these years, the console got a lot of interesting games, and Nintendo proved all its magic powers by bringing impressive titles like Zelda Breath of The Wild, Mario Odyssey, and Smash Bros. The Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite, and OLED have the same performance from 2017. It’s a better model, but still the same Switch from 2017. Back in the last years, the rumors about a Switch Pro reached their peak, but instead, we got the Nintendo Switch OLED. However, it still performs like a regular Switch. Ok, Ok, the Nintendo Switch OLED has a significant hardware upgrade as it ditches the LCD screen for a bigger and brighter OLED screen. The Nintendo Switch got a couple of updates since 2017, however, none with significant hardware upgrades. Switch Lite, Switch OLED – still no Switch Pro, or Switch 2 Therefore, we believe that it’s damn about time for Nintendo to bring the Nintendo Switch 2. After all those years, the Nintendo Switch’s hardware is lagging. However, the years passed and now we have a new generation of consoles. Something that you will never do with your PS5 or Xbox Series. You could easily play it on your TV, but the biggest deal was to take it elsewhere. Its biggest differential was the possibility to play on the go without any issues. The portable console revamped the segment offering capable specs that could handle modern games. The Nintendo Switch proved to be a huge success and now figures as the third best-selling console in the history of video games. When combined with the total lifetime unit sales for the console, we have an impressive amount of 122.55 million. Nintendo’s third-quarter earning reports reveal that the 3 Switch models have sold 8.2 million units between October 1 and December 31 in 2022.
